We're not sure what "intense" means or what it should be compared with. Assuming a pastor, mentor, or counselor (PMC) is involved in the marriage preparation, they might schedule anything from a few one-hour meetings to perhaps six months of meetings. It's up to the PMCs and each couple to determine what needs to be addressed.
The workbook covers almost everything one could
think of, yet it is arranged so that couples can easily skip whatever doesn’t apply to them.
Typically, it takes us eight two-hour sessions to go through the workbook. Keep in mind that we love to develop relationships with our couples, and the questions often take us on relevant "rabbit trails”. There is no telling what the workbook questions will open up. Other PMCs might not meander as much and, thus, they get things done in shorter time.
Yes. It's very adaptable. The questions evoke extended thoughtful answers which greatly facilitates dialog about vital areas of relationship. Therefore, whether used by themselves or with a PMC, they will get a lot out of the course.
Definitely. Not only are we here to help you with your relationship, but we are also open to suggestions for improving our ministry. We have a blog where you can post questions, ask for help, and interact with other couples. to visit our blog, click on the blog button at the top of the page.
Actually, if you are a Christian, your marriage is everybody's business to a certain extent. How you live your life affects the
Body of Christ. Pastors and Christian counselors have a mandate and a responsibility to God to conduct marriages and marriage preparation
in light of, and in obedience to, scripture. They answer to God and to elders for their ministry.
In the past, we did premarital counseling in conjunction with our local church or other churches in our area, and that has been without charge. However, beginning in 2009 we will be charging on a sliding scale. We are mindful that many couples are scraping by and that many receive premarital counseling for free through their church. However, it's not actually free. It is paid for via the pastor's salary through tithes and offerings.
On the basis of ten two-hours sessions (20 hours) our fee is
$500.00 which is adjustable to the couple's ability. We have a premarital sponsorship program in which family members, friends,
and members of the Body of Christ can invest in the couple’s premarital course. This makes an exceptional wedding gift. Through sponsorship, a person is giving his or her blessing to their union. The couple gains great encouragement and strength knowing
that others want to invest in their marriage. It also helps foster their responsibility and accountability to God, to the sponsers,
and to the church.
